Privacy at Famio

This page explains, in plain language, how Famio handles your information today. Our formal privacy policy is being finalised with legal counsel and will be published here before public launch.

Your location belongs to you

• Location sharing is off until you turn it on, separately for each family.
• You decide who sees you: everyone in the family, or only the people you pick.
• You can share an approximate area (about 1 km) instead of your exact position, or pause sharing at any time.
• If you aren't sharing with anyone, Famio doesn't keep the locations your device sends.

What we keep, and for how long

• Your latest shared position, so your family map works.
• A short trail of meaningful movements (not every GPS point), kept for 7 days by default.
• Your family's saved places and arrival/departure events.
• Security records of important actions (for example, sharing changes), without your exact location or message contents.

Messages, photos, voice and video

• Every message disappears 24 hours after it is sent, whether or not it was read.
• Photos, voice notes and videos are stored in private storage, only reachable through links that expire within minutes, and deleted when the message expires.
• Notifications never contain what was written — only that there is a new message in your family.
• Photos are re-encoded on your phone before sending, which removes hidden metadata such as the place a photo was taken.

Live location, check-ins and SOS

• Live location is something you start yourself, for a limited time; it ends on its own.
• When you send an SOS or a check-in, the people in your family receive it with your position if you share it with them. These events are kept for 30 days.
• Famio never turns on your camera or microphone without you seeing it and tapping.

The family assistant

Questions like "Where is everyone?" are answered by fixed rules inside Famio, using only what your family shares with you. Nothing is sent to an external AI service.

Your controls

• Download a copy of your data from Account settings in the app.
• Delete your account at any time. Your personal data is removed; families you own are handed to another member.
• We can't delete copies other people made outside Famio, such as screenshots.

What Famio is not

Famio is a family connection app, not a monitoring tool and not an emergency service. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
